# AI Research always runs on the server

Every AI Research run works on the server, not in your browser. This
article covers how long an unattended run keeps going, why it might pause
on its own, how to resume it, and how long results stick around.

## A block of unattended working time, then it pauses

A run keeps working on its own for a while, then pauses and shows a
status next to the run: **Time limit reached — results are kept**,
**Budget reached**, **Nothing new found anymore**, or (if the agent itself
decided it's done short of the target) a note that it stopped on its own
— in every case, everything found so far is kept exactly as it was. A run
with a finite stop target (25, 50 or 100) gets roughly an hour of this
unattended chaining; one set to **no limit** keeps auto-chaining for much
longer — many hours — before it needs a manual Resume.

## Resuming a run

A paused, stopped, errored or finished run, or one marked **Stalled — no
more response from the run**, shows a **Resume** button — click it and
the agent picks up where it left off, searching for genuinely new matches
instead of repeating itself. Each Resume opens another pass the same size
as what you originally chose (both the match target and the credit
budget) and gives the run a fresh block of unattended working time, so you
can resume a run several times, up to 200 matches per research without a
target list or 1,000 with one. **Stop** ends a run at any time and keeps
everything found so far.

## Runs on your phone too

Describing a target group, starting a run, and reviewing its progress and
matches all work on a phone now, not only on a desktop browser.

## Shared with your workspace

Researches belong to your workspace, so every member sees them on any
device they sign in on; a run a colleague started shows their name. Runs
are charged to the workspace owner's credit balance. There's no fixed
limit on how many researches run at once — credits are the only limit.

## How long results are kept

A run and its matches are kept for 7 days counted from when it was
started, whatever its status, and are deleted automatically once that
window passes — unless you've turned on automatic hand-off to a list, in
which case the research is kept for 30 days instead (see "[Getting AI
Research hits into a list automatically](https://listplus.ai/en/help/find-contacts/research-results-to-a-list)"). Add anything you want to keep
to a list before the 7 days pass.

## FAQ

### Does a research keep working after I close the tab?

Yes — every research runs on the server, so it keeps searching even after you close the tab or the window, switch away for a while, or your laptop sleeps.

### What does "Time limit reached — results are kept" mean?

Your run used its block of unattended working time and paused itself; everything it found is kept. Click Resume to give it another block of working time toward the same target.

### What do "Budget reached" and "Nothing new found anymore" mean?

Budget reached means the run spent the credit ceiling you set before reaching its match target; Nothing new found anymore means a full round turned up no genuinely new matches. Both keep everything found so far, and Resume opens a fresh pass with a new budget.

### How do I continue a paused research?

Click Resume on the run — the agent picks up where it stopped, excluding what it already found, and opens another pass the same size as what you originally chose. Resume also works on a finished, errored or stalled run, up to 200 matches per research without a target list, or 1,000 with one.

### Does resuming a research reset the 7-day clock?

No — the 7-day expiry is fixed to when the run was first started, and clicking Resume doesn't push it back. To keep matches beyond that, add them to a list, or turn on automatic hand-off so the research is kept for 30 days instead of 7.

### What does "Stalled — no more response from the run" mean?

The run stopped reporting progress before it finished. Everything it found so far is kept — click Resume to continue.
