# Watchlist vs. Lists: why both exist

The **Watchlist** (formerly Saved) and **Lists** both hold contacts, but
they're for two different stages of the same job: the Watchlist is where
people wait before you've decided what to do with them, and a list is where
you actually get them ready for something — checked, enriched, exported.

## What each one is for

The **Watchlist** is a lightweight holding area. Anyone you look at in
Person Search, Segment Search, AI Research or the Inbox lands on it
automatically once a lookup finds data, sorted into folders you create, with
no notes, statuses or deal stages — it's deliberately not a CRM. You can
reopen and reload anyone on the Watchlist for free at any time, whether or
not you've decided on a list for them yet.

A **list** is a real, structured table: columns, checks, evaluations
(Cold Email, CRM Quality, …), enrichment, and export or sync to another
tool. Working on a list is where credits get spent and where data actually
becomes usable for a campaign or a CRM push.

Both belong to the **workspace**: every member sees the same Watchlist
and the same lists, and each workspace has its own of both.

## The practical differences

- **Structure.** The Watchlist has no columns of its own beyond what a
person's profile carries; a list has whatever schema you or an import
gave it, and every list can look completely different.
- **Record limit.** Rows in lists count toward the record limit of the
workspace owner's plan; people on the Watchlist do not — the Watchlist
has its own, separate caps per workspace (up to 1,000 people outside
folders, up to 300 more filed across the folders, plus up to 50
viewed-only entries kept for 30 days under Recently viewed, up to 5,000
people added from lists, and up to 5,000 companies) that have nothing to
  do with the plan.
- **What you can do there.** On the Watchlist you can reload a profile,
run add-on reveals like a verified email or mobile, **set alerts** for
job changes and new LinkedIn posts (paid per contact and month; news can
go straight to a pipeline — see "[The Watchlist (saved contacts)](https://listplus.ai/en/help/inbox-and-saved/saved-contacts)") and,
for companies, new job postings and funding rounds (see "[Companies on the
  Watchlist and company alerts](https://listplus.ai/en/help/inbox-and-saved/watch-companies)"), and
move people to a list. Alerts run only on the Watchlist, not in a
list; full enrichment jobs, quality checks, evaluations, exports and
syncs only run inside a list.
- **Lifetime.** People you've saved, filed into a folder, or enriched stay
on the Watchlist indefinitely; merely-viewed entries (Recently viewed)
drop out after 30 days. A list stays until you delete it.

## Moving between them

From the Watchlist into a list is one direction: tick people on the
Watchlist and click **Add** → **Add to list** to send them into an existing
or new list, merging with matching rows instead of duplicating. **Add** →
**Send to pipeline** is the third destination: it hands the selected people
to a pipeline (for example your CRM or Slack) straight from the Watchlist,
without a list in between — see "[Pipelines — send records on to your CRM,
Slack, e-mail or API](https://listplus.ai/en/help/pipelines/pipelines-overview)". A contact with alerts can also reach a pipeline by
itself: pick one under **Send news to** in the alert dialog and the contact
goes there when a job change or new post is found.

The other direction works too: on the Watchlist, open **People** and click
**Add from a list** in the page header to put every person of a list on the
Watchlist (each once, up to 5,000 per workspace); the list itself stays as
it is.

## FAQ

### Why does ListPlus have both a Watchlist and Lists?

They cover two stages: the Watchlist (formerly Saved) is a lightweight place to collect people as you find them, without deciding on a list yet; a list is where you structure, check, enrich and export contacts for a specific job like a campaign or a CRM push.

### Do people on my watchlist count toward my plan's record limit?

No. The record limit only counts rows inside lists, against the plan of the workspace owner. The Watchlist has its own separate limits per workspace instead — up to 1,000 people outside folders, up to 300 more across the folders, plus up to 50 viewed-only entries (Recently viewed) kept for 30 days, up to 5,000 people added from lists and up to 5,000 companies.

### Can I run enrichment or checks on people while they're still on the Watchlist?

You can reload a profile, run individual add-ons like revealing a verified email, and set alerts for job changes or new LinkedIn posts (paid per contact and month) on the Watchlist — alerts work only there, not in a list. Full enrichment jobs, quality checks and evaluations only run inside a list, so add the people to a list first for those.

### Does adding someone to a list remove them from the Watchlist?

No. Adding a person to a list doesn't remove them from the Watchlist — they stay there too, so you can still find them later, add them to a second list, or file them into a folder.

### Can I move a contact from a list back onto the Watchlist?

Yes — on the Watchlist open People and click Add from a list to put every person of a list on the Watchlist, each once. For a single person, choose a folder under Save in … in their profile drawer, or click Save on their row under Recently viewed on the Watchlist page. The list rows stay where they are either way.

### Can I send contacts from my watchlist to a pipeline without putting them in a list first?

Yes. On the Watchlist page, tick the people, click Add and choose Send to pipeline, then pick the pipeline. They wait there as entries until someone clicks Send in the pipeline (or go out by themselves if the pipeline's Release is set to Automatic); see "[Pipelines — send records on to your CRM, Slack, e-mail or API](https://listplus.ai/en/help/pipelines/pipelines-overview)" for how that works.

### Which one should I use to start finding new contacts?

Either works — opening someone's profile from Person Search, Segment Search, AI Research or the Inbox puts them on the Watchlist automatically once a lookup finds data, so it fills up as you search. Use it to collect over several sessions, then send a batch to a list once you know which campaign or CRM push they're for.
