Name, company and job title checks
Names, companies and job titles share the same kinds of problems — bad capitalization, placeholder text, leftover LinkedIn scraping noise, and values leaked from the wrong field. This topic lists the actual checks behind those issues.
Name checks#
Capitalization: Name in ALL CAPS, Name in all lowercase, Unusual Capitalization (e.g. "jOHN"; "deGrom" and "mcDonald" are spellings), Partial ALL CAPS in Name (e.g. "Frank KOHLER"). Content problems: Missing Name, Placeholder Name ("test", "N/A", "unbekannt"), Single Character Name (a one-character Chinese or Korean name is a name), Name Too Long, Invalid Characters in Name (including numbers, and text after a comma that is no credential: "Smith, CEO"), Identical First and Last Name, Extra Spaces in Name, Name Cut to Initial ("Z." with no name left). Field mix-ups: Full Name in Field ("Hans Smith" with an empty last name; the fix splits it), Email in Name Field, E-mail Local Part as First Name ("anja.hagen", "hsmith"), Title Instead of First Name ("Dr." as the whole first name). Scraping/format artifacts: Title Prefix in Name (Dr., Prof., Herr, Frau, Mme, Sra.), Suffix in Last Name (Jr., sen., III), Credential Suffix in Name (MBA, PhD, CPA, LL.M.; known credentials only), Connection Degree in Name (LinkedIn's "· 1st", German "· 1.", "· Sie"), LinkedIn Status Text in Name ("We're hiring", "#OpenToWork"), Middle Initial in Name, Encoding Issues, Emoji in Name, Invisible Characters in Name, Remark in Name (a remark in brackets or quotes such as "(she/her)" or a nickname).
A list with a single "Name" column gets the same checks on that column.
Capitalization checks only look at values that have the shape of a name: a value with a dot, brackets or digits is not offered a capitalization fix, and up to three capital letters alone ("TDF") are not treated as a name in capitals unless the other name field is in capitals too.
Company checks#
Empty Company, Placeholder Company (also LinkedIn's stand-ins for no company: "Self-employed", "Freelancer", "Student", "Retired"), Company in ALL CAPS, Company in all lowercase, Encoding Issues, URL as Company Name (a bare domain like "Booking.com" is only noted), Legal Suffix Normalization (GmbH, AG, SE, Ltd, Inc casing; only the case changes, no period is added), LinkedIn Status Text ("We're hiring!"), Tagline in Company Name ("Acme - Leading provider of…"; "Acme | Globex" is a dual name and stays), Emoji in Company Name, Invisible Characters.
For company names, a part with a digit or sign ("meal&heal", "1KOMMA5°") is left as it is. In an all-caps company name, a known abbreviation ("SAP SE", "KPMG AG") and a part of two letters, or three without a vowel, stay in capitals ("SFC Asset Management", "Hafn IT"); a single word in capitals ("NVIDIA") is not flagged at all, because brand spelling is not something a rule knows.
Job title checks#
Empty Job Title, Placeholder Job Title, Job Title in ALL CAPS (acronyms stay: "VP Sales", "Head of Sales DACH"), Job Title in all lowercase, Suspicious Characters in Job Title (gender forms like "Werkstudent*in", C++ and C# are fine), Job Title Too Long, Tagline in Job Title ("CEO | Building the future of work" — the fix keeps "CEO"), Former/Ex Role ("former", "ex-", "retired", "a. D.", "i. R." at the start of the title; "Founder | Ex-Google" is a current role), Company Name in Job Title (the row's company inside the title, or an "at Company" pattern — the fix keeps the title alone), Emoji in Job Title, Invisible Characters in Job Title, LinkedIn Status Text in Job Title ("Open to Work").
AI checks in this area#
Four checks need real-world judgment and run only with Include AI Analysis turned on: Fake/Test Name (e.g. "Max Mustermann"), Person Name as Company (a person's name sitting in the company field), Department Name Instead of Job Title (e.g. "Marketing" instead of an actual title), and Seniority Classification (sorts titles into C-Level, VP, Director, Manager, IC, Intern). See "ai-checks" for how they work and what data they see.
Fixing what these checks find#
These checks have a Fix button that corrects every affected row for free: the ALL CAPS, lowercase and capitalization checks for names and companies, Job Title in ALL CAPS and in all lowercase, Tagline in Job Title, Company Name in Job Title, Title Prefix in Name, Credential Suffix in Name, Connection Degree in Name, Remark in Name, First and Last Name E-mail Local Part as First Name, Full Name in Field, LinkedIn Status Text in Name, Extra Spaces in Name, Legal Suffix Normalization, the LinkedIn Status Text checks, Tagline in Company Name, and the Emoji and Invisible Characters checks. See "Fix and Fix all — correcting issues automatically" for what Fix and Fix all do and don't cover. All other checks here, including Encoding Issues, Suffix in Last Name, Placeholder, Former/Ex Role, Job Title Too Long and all four AI checks, show only an affected-row count to select and review.

FAQ#
What name checks does ListPlus run?#
Capitalization (ALL CAPS, lowercase, partial caps), missing/placeholder/too-short/too-long names, names cut to an initial, a title such as "Dr." instead of a first name, invalid characters (including numbers), and LinkedIn-scraping artifacts like title prefixes, suffixes, credential suffixes and connection-degree markers ("· 1st").
Can ListPlus strip "Dr." or "Prof." from a name automatically?#
Yes — the Title Prefix in Name check flags a title/honorific in the first name field and offers a Fix (Strip Title Prefix) that removes it from the field.
Does ListPlus catch company names that are really a person's name?#
Yes, with the AI-powered Person Name as Company check (part of Include AI Analysis) — it flags when the company field actually holds a person's name rather than a company.
What does ListPlus check on job titles besides format?#
Beyond formatting (ALL CAPS, special characters, length), it flags a tagline after a separator ("CEO | Building the future of work"), Former/Ex Role titles (the person may have left), Company Name in Job Title (the row's company inside the title), department names used as a title (AI check), and classifies seniority (AI check).
Does ListPlus remove LinkedIn scraping noise like "We're hiring!" from company or job title fields?#
Yes — LinkedIn Status Text (company) and LinkedIn Status Text in Job Title both catch this and offer a Fix to remove it.
Are these checks free?#
The checks listed above under Name, Company and Job Title checks are all free and run automatically. Only the four AI checks (Fake/Test Name, Person Name as Company, Department Name Instead of Job Title, Seniority Classification) are part of the separate, optional Include AI Analysis setting — see "ai-checks".
Where do I fix the issues these checks find?#
Open Analyze, and use Fix on any check that offers one for a free automatic correction; checks needing judgment (placeholders, former roles, company-in-job-title, the AI checks) only let you select and review the rows. See "fixing-issues" for details.
What does the "Remark in Name" check do?#
It finds a remark in brackets in a name field, such as "(she/her)" or "(HC/SIT-PT)", and its Fix takes it out of the name. The removed remark is kept with the row.
What does "E-mail Local Part as First Name" mean?#
The first name field holds the local part of the e-mail ("anja.hagen", "hans_smith", "hsmith") while the last name is empty. The check only reports rows whose e-mail address starts exactly like that; a two-part value is split into first and last name by its Fix.
Why is a name or company not offered a capitalization fix?#
Values with a dot, brackets or digits, a domain in the company field ("impact.com"), and company parts with a digit or sign ("meal&heal") are left alone. In an all-caps company name, short parts such as "SFC" or "IT" stay in capitals as abbreviations.
