When enrichment sources disagree, which value is offered?
Looking up the same person or company more than once, or through more than one provider, can produce different values for the same field. This explains how ListPlus decides which one to offer, and the rule that comes first: by default, enrichment only fills empty cells.
By default, enrichment only fills empty cells#
An enrichment you run on a list fills the cells by itself once results arrive — only the empty ones. The "Fill empty cells with enrichment data?" dialog appears only after an AI Analysis. The Fill empty tab of "Apply values" also writes only into empty cells. A value already in a cell, whether you typed it, pasted it or imported it, is left alone — except a first or last name cut to an initial ("Z."), which the full name completes.
An existing value is replaced only when you set it up on purpose: the Overwrite all tab in "Apply values" (you tick each field), Take over in the Record panel on a value under "Different from the list", Overwrite existing when joining columns from another list, an AI command or cleanup you run that changes values, or a list rule's Enrich action whose Cells setting is "Replace empty and invalid values" or "Overwrite everything – including values entered by hand".
One rule picks the best value#
When more than one source has returned a value for the same field on a row, ListPlus picks one value per field with one rule, used for filling cells, the Record panel and the best-value columns.
- Job title, company and seniority: the most recent value wins, because people change jobs; source reliability only breaks a tie.
- E-mail: an address a check found invalid loses; then an address at the row's current company; then, at the same domain, a verified address beats a catch-all or unchecked one; then the more recent one.
- Phone: invalid loses, then a mobile beats a landline or main line, then a valid number, then the more recent one.
- Names, LinkedIn URL, domain: by source reliability, then the newer value; AI-inferred values come last.
- City, state, country: from the person's sources on a person row and from the company's sources on a company row.
A check older than 90 days counts only as a hint. The rule decides which value is offered; it doesn't override a value already in the grid.
Seeing every source for a row#
Click a row and open the Record panel. Under From sources, Best values shows the value ListPlus picked from all sources; hover its source icon to see the source, when it was retrieved and, for e-mail and phone, the last check. Below it, each source has its own line with all its values.

FAQ#
If I've already typed a value into a cell, can enrichment overwrite it?#
Not by default. Filling cells from enrichment writes only into empty cells, so a value you typed or pasted is left alone unless you choose "Overwrite all" in Apply values, Take over in the Record panel on a value marked "Different from the list", "Overwrite existing" in a join, or run an AI command that changes it. A list rule's Enrich action can also be set to "Replace empty and invalid values" or "Overwrite everything – including values entered by hand".
How does ListPlus pick a value when two providers found different data for the same field?#
It depends on the field. Job title, company and seniority take the most recent value. E-mail and phone follow their own order (invalid loses, current company and mobile first), and every other field goes by source reliability, with AI-inferred values last.
Does a verified email always beat an unverified one?#
Not always. An address at the person's current company beats one at another company, even a verified one, and verified beats catch-all or unchecked only when both are at the same domain. A check older than 90 days counts only as a hint, but an address once found invalid keeps losing unless a newer check says otherwise.
Where can I see which source a value came from?#
Open the Record panel for that row. Under "From sources", Best values shows the value ListPlus picked from all sources; hover its source icon to see the source, when it was retrieved and, for e-mail and phone, the last check. Below it, each source has its own line with all its values.
Which job title or company does ListPlus use when sources disagree?#
The most recent one, because people change jobs. Source reliability only decides when two values are equally recent.
Which email address does ListPlus pick when several sources found one?#
An address a check found invalid loses first. Then an address at the person's current company wins, then a verified one over a catch-all or unchecked one at the same domain, then the more recent address.
Why was an older verified email replaced by a newer unverified one?#
A check older than 90 days counts only as a hint, so it no longer outweighs a newer address. An address with no check date still counts as freshly checked.
Why does ListPlus prefer the work address at the current company over a verified one?#
A working address at the person's current company is more likely to reach them than a verified address from a former employer. Verified beats unchecked only when both are at the same domain.
Which phone number does ListPlus pick, mobile or landline?#
An invalid number loses first, then a mobile beats a landline or main line, then a valid number, then the more recent one. A number from a company source is never treated as mobile.
Is a city or country taken from the person or the company?#
On a person row it comes from the person's sources, on a company row from the company's sources.
How do I deliberately replace a value that's already in a cell?#
Use "Overwrite all" (from "Apply values" in the Enrich menu), "Overwrite existing" (when joining columns from another list) or Take over in the Record panel on a value under "Different from the list" — all explicit, per-field choices, never automatic.
Can an AI command change a value that's already in a cell?#
Yes — unlike enrichment fill, an AI command or cleanup you run acts on the cells you target and can change values that are already there, so review its result: changed cells are shown as suggestions until you click Apply in the list header.
