Editing cells, undo/redo, and adding rows

Updated Markdown

Editing a cell#

Double-click a cell, or select it and press Enter, to start editing — or just start typing over a selected cell to replace its content right away. Enter commits the edit and keeps that cell selected, Tab commits and moves to the next cell, and Escape cancels and restores the previous value. On a phone, double-tap a row (or tap its number) to open it in the Record panel and edit it there with Edit under "In the list". Selecting a cell (without opening it for editing) and pressing Delete or Backspace clears it immediately. Every edit is saved automatically about a second later — see saving-is-manual.

Fill handle, copy and paste#

Drag the small square at the bottom-right corner of a selected cell or range to copy that value into every cell you drag over. Select a cell or a range, copy with ⌘C / Ctrl+C, then select the target and paste with ⌘V / Ctrl+V — paste is turned off on lists you don't have edit access to.

Adding new rows#

Click New row in the status bar at the bottom of the grid, right-click any row and choose Insert Row Below, or press Tab or ↓ from the last cell of the last row to grow the grid automatically. None of these appear if adding rows has been turned off for that list.

Undo and redo#

Click Undo in the list header (Redo appears next to it after an undo), or press ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z to undo and ⇧⌘Z / Ctrl+Y to redo while a cell is selected but not being edited (inside a cell editor, the text field's own undo applies). Undo reaches the last 100 actions. One step is one action: a typed cell, a whole paste or fill-handle drag, added rows, or deleted rows (they come back complete, in the same place). Tags, ignored rows and sublist changes are not undo steps. The history is cleared when you switch lists or reload the page.

AI suggestions in cells#

Cells the AI filled are highlighted until you take them. Click one to see "AI suggestion – before:" with the previous value and Discard or Apply for that one cell. See saving-is-manual for applying or discarding all of them at once.

  • saving-is-manual — automatic saving, the save status, undo in detail, and AI suggestions (Apply / Discard).
  • selecting-rows — the selection bar for acting on several rows at once.

FAQ#

How do I edit a cell?#

Double-click a cell, or select it and press Enter, to start editing — or just start typing to replace its content right away. Enter commits the edit and keeps that cell selected, Tab commits and moves to the next cell, and Escape cancels and restores the previous value. On a phone, double-tap the row to open it in the Record panel and edit it there.

What is the fill handle?#

It's the small square at the bottom-right corner of a selected cell or range — drag it down or across and ListPlus copies that value into every cell you drag over. It works for a single cell or a whole selected range at once.

Can I copy and paste cells or ranges?#

Yes — select a cell or a range, copy it with ⌘C / Ctrl+C, then select the target cell or range and paste with ⌘V / Ctrl+V. Paste is turned off on lists you don't have edit access to.

How do I add a new row?#

Click New row in the status bar at the bottom of the grid, right-click any row and choose Insert Row Below, or press Tab or ↓ from the last cell of the last row to grow the grid automatically. None of these appear if adding rows has been turned off for that list.

Is there an undo/redo for the grid?#

Yes — click Undo or Redo in the list header, or press ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z to undo and ⇧⌘Z / Ctrl+Y to redo while a cell is selected but not being edited. It reaches the last 100 actions; switching to another list or reloading the page clears the history.

What does undo/redo cover?#

Undo/redo covers cell values (typed, pasted, fill-handle fills, an Apply of AI suggestions, confirmed bulk fills) and added or deleted rows — deleted rows come back complete, in the same place. Tags, ignored rows and sublist changes are not undo steps, so remove or restore them the same way you added them.

How do I revert just one cell back to its previous value?#

Select the cell and press ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z (or click Undo in the list header) right after the edit — the old value is written back and saved. For a highlighted AI suggestion, click the cell and choose Discard in the "AI suggestion – before:" tooltip.

How do I clear a cell's contents?#

Select the cell, without opening it for editing, and press Delete or Backspace — it's cleared immediately and saved automatically about a second later; ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z brings the value back.
