Why did enrichment find nothing?
Sometimes a lookup runs and a cell stays empty. This article is about a lookup that genuinely found nothing. If the row still shows its running ring, the run isn't done with it yet; if a run stopped early, the task indicator says why (not enough credits, the provider not answering, your accepted maximum reached) and starting it again continues with the rest — see "Enrichment runs: progress, limits and stopped runs". If a lookup did find data but the cell is still empty, see "Fill empty cells with enrichment data" instead.
Why nothing was found#
- No starting point for that row. Every route needs an anchor: a LinkedIn URL, an email, a domain, or a name plus company. A row with none of these appears in the enrichment plan under "Remains open (no route):" before anything runs and is skipped.
- The provider genuinely has no match. Small or very new companies, personal email domains, and people without an indexed LinkedIn profile are common cases no provider database covers.
- The identifier is wrong or outdated. A typo in the name, a stale LinkedIn URL, or a domain that no longer belongs to the company can lead to a miss even though the row looks complete.
- The route didn't match the anchor. A company-only row has nothing for a person route to start from, and vice versa — see the input tables in "Find a verified email" and "Find phone and mobile numbers" for which button needs which starting point.
What was charged#
Almost every lookup only charges when it actually finds something, so a miss usually costs nothing. See "Price list: what every action costs" (the "Charged" column of each table and the section "For advanced users") for the short list of exceptions that charge for the attempt itself, and "Find a verified email" for the extra exceptions specific to email routes.
What to try next#
- Try a wider route. If "Contact Brief (by Name & Company)" (charged only on a hit) finds nothing, "Find Email (by Name & Company)" searches more sources at a higher price (also charged only on a hit).
- Give the row an anchor first. A free "LinkedIn URL (by Name & Company)" search (Enrich menu) can turn a name-and-company row into one with a LinkedIn URL to enrich from, at no cost even on a miss.
- Double-check the row's existing data. Fix a misspelled name or an obviously wrong domain, then re-run the lookup.
- Accept it and move on. Some contacts simply aren't in any provider's data — the row stays as-is, and most lookups cost nothing on a miss (see the exceptions under "What was charged").

FAQ#
Why is my cell still empty after running enrichment?#
Either the lookup genuinely found nothing for that row (this article), the run hasn't reached the row yet or stopped early (the row keeps its ring, or the task indicator names the reason — click Continue there for the rest), or an AI Analysis found values you haven't filled in yet ("Fill empty cells?" dialog or Apply values) — see "Fill empty cells with enrichment data" for that last case.
Was I charged for a lookup that found nothing?#
Usually not — almost every lookup only charges on a hit. A short list of exceptions charge for the attempt itself even on a miss; see "Price list: what every action costs" for exactly which ones.
Why does a row show "no route" and get skipped?#
Every lookup needs a starting point: a LinkedIn URL, an email, a domain, or a name plus company. A row with none of these has nothing to search from, so it appears in the enrichment plan under "Remains open (no route):" before anything runs and is skipped without charging anything.
What should I do when a lookup keeps finding nothing for a row?#
Check whether the row's name, company or domain has a typo, try a wider route if a cheaper one already came up empty, or accept that the contact isn't in any provider's data — most lookups don't charge for a miss; LinkedIn Profile Search and Verify LinkedIn Profile are the exceptions.
Can I get an anchor for a row that has nothing to start from?#
Yes — run the free "LinkedIn URL (by Name & Company)" search from the Enrich menu first; it costs nothing even when it doesn't find a URL, and a URL it does find becomes the anchor other lookups can use.
Does a company lookup that finds nothing still cost credits?#
No — a company lookup by domain or name only charges when the company is actually found; see "Price list: what every action costs" for the full rule.
Will ListPlus keep retrying a lookup that already found nothing?#
The same lookup isn't repeated, but an enrichment from the selection bar, a check card or the AI chat moves on to the next route for that record by itself, within its "at most". A single step from the Enrich menu runs once — start a wider one yourself, for example after fixing the row's data.
Why did a LinkedIn search charge me even though it found nothing?#
LinkedIn Profile Search by name and company is one of the few exceptions that charges credits for the attempt itself, whether or not it finds a match, because the search against LinkedIn still runs either way. Verify LinkedIn Profile works the same way, while the "LinkedIn URL (by Name & Company)" search costs no credits.
